Matthew 16:18 (KJV) - And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

OUR EARLIEST CONGREGATION:  Based on oral history, the church of Christ at Edgar Springs was an outgrowth of work which took place in the early 1900s. This was over 120 years ago. 

​

FROM THE FRONT PORCH:  About 199 plus years ago the Gospel was preached from the front porch of the old spring house, which was located at the Frank Davidson Spring. 

​

THE EVENING SHADE SCHOOL HOUSE: Our congregation had no building in which to assemble but assembly and meetings would occasionally be held in schoolhouses. In 1936 The church of Christ at Anutt, Missouri sent a preacher to preach at the Evening Shade School House.

THE BRUSH ARBOR: In 1938 a brush arbor was built on the Harris’ place and the Gospel was preached there, the congregation was organized, and two Elders were appointed..

THE EVENING SHADE CHURCH OF CHRIST: Around 1942 our congregation built a building on the site where the brush arbor stood and it became known as the Evening Shade church of Christ. The building is still standing today.

THE CHURCH MOVED TO TOWN:  The church moved to its location in Edgar Springs, in 1956.  The church purchased land at 820 Broadway where the church stands today, members built the building, and more Elders were appointed.  The first service in Edgar Springs was held on May 6, 1956.

BENEVELENCE: Over the years our congregation has helped support the Herald of Truth, Fair Haven Children’s Home, the  Fisher’s of Men Ministry, the Gospel Chariot Missionary (in Africa), the Edgar Springs PCR3 School Backpack Program (weekend meals for students), other missionaries, and benevolence for our members and community.

PREACHERS: During the life of our congregation over 100 men have preached in our congregation on Sunday appointments, lectureships, and gospel meetings.  Many young men from the Bible Institute of Missouri in Springfield Missouri have preached for us and were able to strengthen their training and experience. Currently Don Killgore and Bob Robinson preach and teach Bible study for us.

THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST: We preach and teach the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Much good has been done for the cause of Christ. The Gospel is still being taught and preached, souls have been saved, and God and His Son glorified.

2 Corinthians 4:5 (KJV)- We preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
